Sources genuinely disagree here. Diamond Beach is quoted at IDR 25,000 by one 2026 source and 35,000 plus 5,000 parking by another, while one operator's fee page lists no per-site charges at all. Village councils set and change these locally without notice — plan on IDR 5,000–35,000 per site and treat the person collecting at the gate as the only binding price.

The wider honest band — from a stripped-back day you assemble yourself to a comfortable organised one — is IDR 500,000–1,500,000, and a mid-range tour or private driver with a proper restaurant lunch is quoted at IDR 900,000–1,200,000. Premium private packages with a private boat, a dedicated guide and upscale dining run IDR 1,500,000–2,500,000 per person, and the same product listed on the large booking platforms sits near USD 150 per person. Anything advertised far below IDR 700,000 is not a cheaper day. It is a shorter list of inclusions.
One rule before you compare anything else you read online. The rupiah sat near IDR 17,800 to the dollar in August 2026, while most travel pages still convert at 15,000–16,000 — which is why their dollar figures run roughly 10–14% high, and why every market number on this page is rupiah first. Where the cheap listings hide the extras
The single biggest reason two Nusa Penida listings differ by half is whether the round-trip fast boat sits inside the price. Here is the arithmetic that catches people out: a manta snorkel day advertised at IDR 500,000 realistically carries +150,000 Bali levy, +25,000 island retribution, +100,000 marine park fee and +300,000–500,000 for the return boat, which is IDR 1,075,000–1,275,000 for the day before lunch and tips. None of that is a scam. Four separate authorities collect four separate fees and no operator can bundle all of them, so the honest listings name them and the optimistic ones do not.

- Is the return fast boat included, or only the island portion? This one question accounts for most of the price difference you will see.
- Which circuit? West only — Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Crystal Bay — or west plus east, which adds Diamond and Atuh and a longer, rougher drive.
- How many people share the car? Island transport is priced per vehicle underneath, so a full six-seat share is a very different per-head number from a couple.
- Is snorkelling in the price, and is the IDR 100,000 marine park fee in it too? The usual answer is yes to the first and no to the second.
- Is lunch a set warung plate, a restaurant meal, or nothing at all? That gap is IDR 50,000–100,000 per person, checked August 2026.
- What happens if the boat cannot run? Compare the refund and reschedule terms rather than the headline price — that is the clause that actually costs money.
Shared or private, and when the maths flips
Shared works well for a couple who do not mind a fixed circuit and a fixed clock. A seat in a shared car with a driver-guide is IDR 200,000–400,000 per person, checked August 2026, precisely because the vehicle cost splits across a full load. The trade is the order of the day: a shared car reaches Kelingking when the fleet reaches Kelingking, and the queue at the viewpoint is the thing people remember from the trip rather than the price they paid.
Private buys the sequence and the pace, and its per-head number improves fast with group size. Snorkelling and mantas are a separate bill
If you get in the water at Nusa Penida, a IDR 100,000 per foreign visitor per day marine protected area fee applies, in force since July 2023 and still 100,000 as of August 2026. It stacks on the 25,000 island retribution and the 150,000 Bali levy, and it is the line most commonly missing from an advertised snorkel price. Anyone diving over several days should ask about the multi-day passes: 200,000 for up to a month, 500,000 for three months, 800,000 for six.
The trip itself prices very differently depending on where you buy it. Booked on the island, group trips start from IDR 250,000 and shared boats to Manta Point are quoted around IDR 500,000; packaged from the Bali side through an agent or platform, the same standard group tour averages USD 30–45 per person, roughly IDR 530,000–800,000. Checked August 2026, and the spread is the story — you are mostly paying for the booking channel and the transfer, not a better boat. A private charter starts near IDR 3,000,000 for a boat of four, about 750,000 each at full occupancy and much worse at two.
No operator can promise you a manta, and any listing that implies otherwise is selling you something it does not control. Sightings happen year-round with the best odds May to October, and Manta Point sits on the exposed south-west coast, so it is the first stop dropped when there is swell — Manta Bay is the calmer substitute with lower reliability. Compare the reschedule policy between two listings, not the headline number.
Getting to the harbour, and when not to book us
Boats leave from Sanur, and the drive there is where a carefully budgeted day quietly goes wrong. From Ubud or Canggu allow 60–90 minutes, stretching to close to two hours in the 07:00–09:00 harbour rush on a weekday, and add more for rain or a ceremony road closure, which arrives without notice or diversion signs. Now the part that matters more. If you are one person staying in Sanur, do not book us for this leg — walk. - Carry small notes. Site and parking fees are cash, IDR 5,000–35,000, and nobody at the gate has change.
- Pre-pay the island retribution online — since 2026 it is a payment link rather than cash at the pier.
- Pay the Bali levy before you fly and keep the QR voucher on your phone: IDR 150,000 once per entry, checked August 2026.
- Do not plan a crossing near Nyepi. In 2027 it falls on 8 March: ferries stop, the airport closes for 24 hours, and nothing moves for a window either side.
