Sunset in Bali falls between roughly 18:00 and 18:45 all year round, and the whole show is short. The island sits about 8 degrees south of the equator, so the sun drops at a steep angle instead of sliding sideways along the horizon — you get roughly 30 usable minutes from the first good colour to full dark, not the long, forgiving golden hour of northern Europe or California. Plan to be standing at your spot 45-60 minutes early, not five minutes early.
That short window is why drive time matters more than the view itself. A spot 90 minutes away in evening traffic costs you the entire evening and gets you there stressed; the beach three minutes from your hotel gets you there relaxed with a drink in hand. The sky is the same sky. Unless you are specifically after a temple silhouette or a boat deck, the honest answer for most evenings is: go to the nearest west-facing coast.
Pick by where you sleep, not by the photo
Almost every sunset shortlist online is sorted by how dramatic the picture looks, which is useless when you are already tired at 17:00 and deciding what to do tonight. Sorted by neighborhood, the choice gets simple:

- Staying in Canggu: Batu Bolong or Echo Beach on foot, or the rice fields inland if the coast feels too busy.
