What the soak actually fixes
Every Mount Batur morning has the same flaw, and it is not the early start. It is the 30 to 60 minutes of standing still at altitude in wind, after you have arrived warm from either the climb or the drive. But even dressed correctly, you finish that hour cooled through, and then you get into a car for one to two and a half hours. The springs sit between those two things. That is the entire argument, and it is a better one than the springs themselves would make on their own.

Two places run most of the pools on the lakeshore at Toya Bungkah: Batur Natural Hot Spring and Toya Devasya. Neither publishes its prices on its own website, which we checked on 23 September 2026, so the figures below come from travel guides and are worth confirming at the gate.
Salt in Our Hair, updated 9 July 2026, gives IDR 190,000 for Batur Natural Hot Spring, with a towel, a locker and a welcome drink, and IDR 300,000 for Toya Devasya. Coitraveler gives IDR 200,000 walk-in or IDR 120,000 booked online for Batur Natural, and IDR 250,000-300,000 for Toya Devasya. Both guides list the same hours, 07:00-19:00 every day, closed on Nyepi, when the whole island stops.
That opening hour is why the springs fit the end of a sunrise morning so neatly: you come down from the viewpoint shortly after the pools open, before the day-trippers from the south arrive.
The honest case for skipping them
If your priority is getting the sunrise and getting back, the plain sunrise jeep tour at from $45 gives you the identical view and hands you the hour back. Some travellers genuinely want a nap more than a soak, and there is nothing wrong with that answer.
It also matters what the rest of your day looks like. A Batur morning already costs you a night's sleep; if you have a flight, a boat to Nusa Penida or anything else with a fixed time, do not stack an optional hour on top of it.
And in the wet season, from November to March, weigh it the other way: if cloud takes the sunrise, the springs are the part of the morning the weather cannot spoil. That is the one case where we suggest the hot spring version specifically.
