What are Indonesia's public holidays in 2027?

The government fixed them in a joint decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower and the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, signed on 15 September 2026. It names 18 national holidays and 8 days of collective leave (*cuti bersama*). The table lists all 26 days in date order.

Isra Mikraj, the Prophet Muhammad's night journey, appears twice, on 5 January and on 26 December, because the Islamic calendar year is shorter than the Gregorian year. The decree lists Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, but says that the dates of 1 Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are fixed by a decision of the Minister of Religious Affairs.

Which long weekends does Indonesia get in 2027?

These are the runs of days off in a row, counting weekends, for people who follow the national calendar. They are the dates when domestic travel, flights, boats and roads are busiest. The runs are our arithmetic from the decree.

By our count, 19 of the year's days off fall on weekdays: 11 national holidays and all 8 collective leave days. Seven national holidays fall on a weekend and add no day off: 6 February, 28 March, 1 May, 6 June, 15 August, 25 December and 26 December. The single weekday holidays are Tuesday 5 January, Thursday 6 May, Tuesday 1 June and Tuesday 17 August.

Which Hindu holidays does Bali add?

Nyepi is the only Balinese holy day on the national list. Galungan and Kuningan are not national holidays; the days off around them are set by the province. The Bali Sun reported on 4 November 2025 that both festivals are observed twice in 2027, from 13 to 23 January and from 11 to 21 August.

Galungan always falls on a Wednesday and Kuningan ten days later on a Saturday, which matches the dates in the table below. The governor's circular that lists Bali's days off for 2027 had not appeared on the provincial government's site or its legal database on 2 November 2026. The circular for 2026 was dated 6 October 2025, so a 2027 one may appear in the coming weeks; our Galungan guide explains how the 2026 days worked.

What closes for visitors on a public holiday, and what keeps running?

Government offices close on national holidays. The decree tells services that deal directly with the public, such as hospitals, health centres, telecoms, electricity, water, the fire service, security, banking and transport, to arrange staff to work on holidays and collective leave days. Collective leave is not a holiday for everyone: it is deducted from employees' annual leave, and private companies decide for themselves whether to close.

Tourist life mostly continues. For Galungan in 2026, the Bali Sun said that schools close, some local government services and banks work shorter hours, and some temples or parts of temples may be closed to non-worshippers while ceremonies take place. One temple closure we know of: Pura Lempuyang was closed to visitors for five days around Galungan in 2026, as our Galungan guide reports.

Nyepi is the exception. On Monday 8 March nothing runs, the airport has closed for it in recent years, and we run no tours. Our Nyepi closures guide has the hour-by-hour rules, and our Nyepi 2027 guide has the dates.

How does Eid al-Fitr change travel in Bali?

Eid al-Fitr on 10-11 March, with collective leave on 9, 12 and 15 March, makes the longest holiday run of the year, right after Nyepi. The Bali Sun reported in March 2026, when Nyepi and Eid were also two days apart, that boats were likely to sell out around both holidays. Bali is mostly Hindu, so daily life changes little for visitors; the effect is crowded flights, ferries and fast boats.

Eid al-Adha on Monday 17 May, with collective leave on 18 and 19 May and Waisak on Thursday 20 May, makes a second, shorter run of six days from Saturday 15 May. Check dates again close to travel: the Minister of Religious Affairs sets the final Eid dates. Our guide to Bali in March shows how the month fits together.
