Nothing needs booking and nothing is far. The trade is that it is never quiet, and the practical advice we give every guest is to use Grab or Gojek rather than street taxis late at night and to keep off the unlit stretches after dark.
Nusa Dua's evening happens inside the hotel. Dinner is the resort restaurant or a short drive to the fish restaurants on the sand at Jimbaran, and the strip itself is a quiet beach path with almost no street life. Does the base change your day trips?
Less than the two areas differ in everything else, because both sit south of the traffic that hurts Canggu and Ubud. Every Nusa Penida boat leaves from Sanur: from Nusa Dua that transfer is 30-45 minutes, and Kuta sits on the same corridor as Seminyak at 30-50 minutes. Where they split is the sunset temple. From Nusa Dua the cliff temple at Uluwatu is close, 20-40 minutes from most Bukit hotels and only a little more from the strip, while Tanah Lot is 1.5-2 hours each way. Who should pick Kuta, and who should pick Nusa Dua?
Kuta suits travellers on a tight budget, anyone here for the nightlife, surfers on their first lessons, and short stays built around awkward flights: a midnight landing or a dawn departure costs almost nothing in transfer time. It also works as the first and last night of a trip based somewhere else. The trade is noise, scooters and a beach you watch rather than swim in.
Nusa Dua suits families with small children, honeymooners who want quiet, swimmers, and anyone who would rather the week ran on a schedule than on decisions. The trade is that it is enclosed: dinner tends to stay inside the resort, there is little to walk to, and the room rate is the higher of the two.
