New Year's Eve in Bali is a beach-club and street-party night in Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu and Uluwatu, and the hard part is not finding a party but getting home. For 2025/26 the police stopped issuing fireworks permits after the Sumatra floods, Kuta's customary village called off its beach display and Denpasar cancelled its concerts. The year before, police closed and diverted the roads around Kuta Beach from 08:00 on 31 December to 05:00 on 1 January. The rules for 2026/27 are usually announced in the second half of December.

Top picks from this guide
#1
Kuta Beach
Kuta Beach fills from sunset. For 2025/26 the Kuta customary village replaced its fireworks with beach gatherings, music and dining and allowed one five-minute display at midnight, from the Discovery Kartika Plaza hotel. The roads around the beach close from the morning of the 31st, so arrive on foot or by app car to a pickup point outside the closed zone.
#2
Beach clubs in Seminyak and Canggu
The big clubs sell New Year tickets and set menus well ahead, and the roads to Berawa and Seminyak are the slowest on the island that night. For 2024/25 some clubs set up pickup points with Grab and Bluebird; ask your club how it is handling the ride home before you buy a ticket.
#3
Denpasar's art evening
For 2025/26 Denpasar banned fireworks and music concerts and held art performances under the title *Letting Go of the Sun* at Catur Muka and the south side of Puputan Badung from 16:00 to 23:00. The city's programme for 2026/27 had not been announced by October 2026.
#4
The first sunrise of 2027
A pickup between about 02:00 and 03:30 turns the night into the year's first sunrise above Lake Batur. January is the wettest month, so cloud is the risk. The sunrise jeep tour is $45 meeting in Kintamani or $60 with hotel pickup; book it before Christmas.
What happens in Bali on New Year's Eve?
The south of the island turns into one long party strip: beach clubs in Seminyak, Berawa, Canggu and Uluwatu run ticketed countdowns, Kuta Beach fills with a free crowd, and hotels hold their own dinners. The island is at its fullest: BPS counted 572,668 foreign arrivals in December 2025, Bali's school holiday runs until 2 January 2027, and Australian schools are on their summer break.
The real constraint is traffic. The roads into Canggu, Berawa, Seminyak, Kuta, Legian and Uluwatu slow to a crawl in the evening, closures and diversions around Kuta Beach make map estimates useless, and app cars queue at a handful of pickup points. Decide how you get home before you decide where to go.
Are fireworks allowed on New Year's Eve in Bali?
For 2025/26 they were largely banned. After the floods in Sumatra the National Police chief advised against year-end fireworks, and Denpasar police said permits would not be issued and existing ones were cancelled. On 24 December 2025 the Kuta customary village called off the Kuta Beach display, allowing only five minutes at midnight from the Discovery Kartika Plaza hotel, and on 7 December 2025 Denpasar city banned fireworks and music concerts.
For 2026/27 nothing had been decided by October 2026. These decisions are announced in December and depend on the national mood at the time, so treat any party that sells you a fireworks show as a promise it may not be allowed to keep.
Which roads close in Kuta, and how do you get home?
For 2024/25 Denpasar police ran a special traffic system from 08:00 on 31 December to 05:00 on 1 January. The Kuta-Setia Budi junction was closed and traffic diverted to Jalan Setia Budi; at Bemo Corner the road to the beach was closed and diverted along Jalan Raya Kuta; at Pasar Seni the lane from Jalan Kartika Plaza towards the beach was closed and sent along Jalan Tegal Wangi; and the eastbound lane at Patih Jelantik and Dewi Sri and the westbound lane at Singosari were closed. Police advised parking at Central Parking and walking to the beach.
Grab ran pickup points at the Atlas Beach Fest parking area, the Atlas Super Club area and the Dewata Bali parking area. The reliable option is a driver booked in advance who knows the diversions: our private car with driver is from $59 per car for up to 10 hours on a normal day, and for New Year's Eve ask early, because drivers book out. Our Grab and taxi price guide has the ordinary fares.
What is open on 1 January?
Friday 1 January 2027 is a national holiday, and Tuesday 5 January is another one, for Isra Mikraj. Government offices and banks close on both days; tourist businesses, restaurants and tours keep running. Galungan follows on 13 January 2027, so the first half of January is a festival fortnight.
If you want the new year to start with a view rather than a hangover, the sunrise tours to Mount Batur run as on any other morning, with pickup between about 02:00 and 03:30. Book before Christmas.
