April has 107.4 mm of rain at Bali's airport on the long-run normals, less than half of March's 231.1 mm, and it is the month when the seas settle: our manta guide ranks April and May as the calmest window for Nusa Penida. Easter Sunday is 28 March, so April gets the second half of the Easter school holidays: Victoria and Queensland run to 11 April, New South Wales to 23 April and Western Australia to 25 April. The Bali Spirit Festival is in Ubud on 22-25 April.

Is April a good time to visit Bali?
Yes. April has 107.4 mm of rain at the airport on the 1991-2020 normals, less than half of March's 231.1 mm, and the seas are among the calmest of the year. The first half of the month is busier because of Australian school holidays, and a few wet afternoons are still normal.

Top picks from this guide
#1
Nusa Penida in the calm-sea window
Our manta guide ranks April and May first for sea conditions: the rain has drained away and the big southern swell has not filled in yet. The west tour is $49 per car on the island, and Manta Point snorkelling is from $29. Nobody can guarantee a sighting, and swell can still change a morning.
#2
Mount Batur at sunrise
Rain falls from 231.1 mm in March to 107.4 mm in April, so the odds of a clear sunrise improve, but nobody can promise one. Sunrise is at about 06:22 all month, and the pickup is in the early hours. The sunrise jeep tour is from $45, and booking needs no prepayment.
#3
Waterfalls as the rivers clear
The river-fed falls still run well in April, but the water stops turning brown after every storm as the dry season takes hold. Go before noon, wear shoes with grip, and expect stairs that stay wet. Our waterfalls by season guide lists which falls hold their colour and which answer to the last storm.
#4
Ubud and Campuhan Ridge
The Bali Spirit Festival returns to Ubud on 22-25 April 2027, with a community day on Thursday 22 April and three full festival days from Friday to Sunday. Tickets were listed as on sale soon on 2 November 2026. The Ubud route is $65 per car, with entrance tickets of $22 per person on top.
#5
Surf on the west coast
From April the wind turns to blow off the land on the west coast, and our surf season guide names late April to early June as one of the two beginner windows of the year. Surf lessons are from $35 for 2-4 hours, and the instructor picks the beach for the day.
Is April a good time to visit Bali?
Yes, and it is one of the better months for a trip built around the sea. April has 107.4 mm of rain at Ngurah Rai airport on the 1991-2020 normals, against 231.1 mm in March, and the mean temperature is 28.1°C. What rain remains is less than half of March's, and the dry season is close.
Easter itself falls in March in 2027, with Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Sunday on 28 March, so April gets the second half of the Easter school holidays from Australia. Indonesia's 2027 holiday decree lists no national holiday in April at all, and the next one is Labour Day on Saturday 1 May.
The honest downsides are the first half of the month, when two Australian states are on holiday and flights and villas are fuller, and the fact that a few wet afternoons are still normal. Crowds are well below the peak: BPS counted 553,328 foreign arrivals in April 2026, against 697,809 in July 2026.
How much does it rain in Bali in April?
On the Tokyo Climate Center's 1991-2020 normals for Ngurah Rai, April has 107.4 mm of rain, after 231.1 mm in March and before 94.7 mm in May. The mean temperature is 28.1°C. The sun rises at about 06:22 all month and sets at 18:24 on 1 April and 18:11 on 30 April, by our NOAA calculation for Denpasar.
For 2026/2027, BMKG said on 22 September 2026 that a very strong El Niño would delay the rainy season, with Bali starting mainly in November and December 2026 and peaking mainly in January and February 2027. Its release does not say when the season ends or when the 2027 dry season starts. In 2026 BMKG's regional office put the start of the dry season in March for Nusa Penida and the southern parts of Gianyar, Klungkung and Karangasem, in April for most of the island, and in May for the north and centre, as our waterfalls guide reports. BMKG's press-release page showed no 2027 dry-season outlook on 2 November 2026.

When are the school holidays in April 2027?
Australia is Bali's biggest market, with 146,414 arrivals in April 2026, about a quarter of the month, so its school terms shape April. The dates below come from four state education departments; South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory publish their own.
| State | Term 1 ends | School holidays | Term 2 starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Victoria | Thursday 25 March | 26 March to 11 April | Monday 12 April |
| Queensland | Thursday 25 March | 26 March to 11 April | Monday 12 April |
| New South Wales, eastern division | Friday 9 April | 12 to 23 April | Thursday 29 April |
| Western Australia | Friday 9 April | 10 to 25 April | Monday 26 April |
Sources: the Victorian and Queensland governments and the NSW and Western Australian education departments, 2027 term dates. In New South Wales, 27 and 28 April are staff development days. In Western Australia, 26 April is expected to be a public holiday in lieu of Anzac Day, so check with the school.
So the busiest weeks for Australian families are 26 March to 11 April for Victoria and Queensland and 10 to 25 April for Western Australia and New South Wales. This is our reading of the term dates, not a booking forecast.
What is on in Bali in April 2027?
The one dated event we could confirm is the Bali Spirit Festival in Ubud on 22-25 April 2027: a community day and a free night-time opening party on Thursday 22 April, then three full festival days from Friday to Sunday. We expect Ubud to be busier that week, so book rooms and drivers early. We did not find other dated April events on official sites.
There are no national holidays in April. After Easter Sunday on 28 March the next ones are Labour Day on Saturday 1 May, then Ascension Day on Thursday 6 May and Eid al-Adha on Monday 17 May, with collective leave on 18 and 19 May and Waisak on 20 May. If your trip runs into May, our guide to the 2027 public holidays has the whole calendar.
Who is in Bali in April, and what does it do to prices?
BPS Bali counted 553,328 foreign arrivals in April 2026: 17.21% more than in March and 6.41% fewer than the 591,221 of April 2025. Australia led with 146,414, India followed with 46,513 and China with 44,447. Star hotels were 57.94% occupied and non-star hotels 34.81%. BPS said the foreign decline came with a rise in occupancy that it could not explain.
Those figures were lower than a year earlier: BPS Bali said that March to June 2026 were each below the same month of 2025 and blamed global geopolitical dynamics and flight cancellations. In 2026 the autumn school holidays in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia all started on 3 April, so April 2026 held most of the break. In 2027 they are spread from 26 March to 25 April.
We found no published hotel-rate index by month. Our reading, not a price survey: the school-holiday weeks in the table above are the ones to book early, and the Ubud festival days are another.
Which tours work best in April?
The sea and the early mornings. Nusa Penida and Manta Point are at their calmest, and our Sumbawa whale shark guide puts April to June among the best windows for that long trip. The Mount Batur sunrise jeep runs as in every month, with better odds of a clear horizon than in the wet months.
Inland, the Ubud route and the UNESCO heritage tour are both from $65 per car plus entrance tickets, and rafting is from $25. Rain is lighter than in March, but a morning start still gives the best light and the thinnest crowds.
What comes before and after April?
A trip in April often starts in March or continues into May, so these are the pages on either side.
- The month before: Bali in March, with Nyepi on 8 March and Eid al-Fitr on 10-11 March
- The day of silence: Nyepi 2027, if your dates touch early March
- Looking ahead: Labour Day is Saturday 1 May 2027, Ascension Day is Thursday 6 May, and Eid al-Adha is Monday 17 May
